| Susan
Linnet Cox
has been involved in all areas of graphic design and photography for over
two decades. Having specialized in catalog design, she easily branched out
into directing photo shoots, including fashion and product photography.
Susan has cheerfully done everything from ironing to art direction! And
having been “the client” as well as the crew, she understands the entire
photo shoot as few do.
Her book "Photo Styling" is published by Allworth Press and covers the field of photo styling in detail. This complete primer on photo styling includes dozens of pictures, illustrations, and wonderful anecdotes from those in the business. The author shows budding stylists what to do and how to do it. Starting with the fundamentals, she covers it all in her honest voice. "I think you have pulled off an important achievement with this book. I haven't had time to look at it for several days, and I am missing it like it is a romance novel!" San Francisco stylist Marianne Riegg "Photo Styling" is the only resource on the market that offers personal and detailed information specifically targeting those who want to start, maintain, and enhance their career in what may be called the "invisible" business. In addition to photo stylists, Susan speaks to a variety of professionals such as photographers, models, art directors, advertisiers, and designers who can all benefit from her generous and honest contribution to this relatively unknown field. Susan began teaching Weekend Workshops after training several interns and discovering the joy of mentoring the next generation of photo stylists. The workshops led to writing the book and sharing inside knowledge of the field styling on a larger scale. She lives in San Diego but has produced, directed, and styled photo shoots throughout the US and internationally. From there the idea of teaching the career online grew. Photo Styling Workshops was launched in 2006 and shortly after its creation, students worldwide were signing up for online classes such as Food Styling 101 and Producing Photo Shoots. There are currently six instructors on staff, all working professionals in their specialties who are anxious to share their knowledge and experience. In addition, Susan is a professor in the Fashion Dept. of San Diego Mesa College. Some Comments
from Susan's Workshop Students: "We learned so much and had a great time. I hope you continue teaching classes as it is a great hands on experience with plenty of information." "Her passion for what she does permeated the room with a happiness that got everyone excited and involved in the conversation." Now, with Online Classes, the inside workings of photo styling can be taught to students anywhere, from novices to working stylists. Learn on your own schedule at your own convenience! Current offerings include online courses in photo styling, food styling, prop styling, and fashion styling, as well as live workshops and in-house training for staff stylists. |
